Text Box: Inspirational column

If you act in the present with your mind on the future, your present action will be with a divided mind, and will not be effective.

Put your whole mind into present action.

Do not give your creative impulse to original substance, and then sit down and wait for results; if you do, you will never get them. Act now. There is never any time but now, and there never will be any time but now. If you are ever to begin to make ready for the reception of what you want, you must begin now.

    By Wallace D. Wattles

Whatsoever thy hands findeth to do, do it quickly leave not for the evening what the morning might accomplish.

Taken from an old Tibetian manuscript now published under the title “Unto thee I grant”

UK Chapter Dinner and Dance

The UK Chapter inaugural Dinner and Dance held on the 6th of December 2008 was captured on video and is now available for all to enjoy.  We hope the DVD will hold a prominent place in your DVD collection.  I believe the DVD was an excellent production, one that would make any past student proud of our association whether or not they are members of the UK Chapter.  Indeed it was after watching the DVD that I receive that immediate impulse to prepare this newsletter.  We currently have about 20 DVD remaining and although we can burn more copies I would particularly encourage every one to get a hold of a copy now as we would not necessarily produce anymore unless we receive pre-orders for a certain minimum number of copies.

The DVD is something that I would personally watch many times over and it serves as a permanent record of what we are capable of doing when we team up together with a definite purpose to achieve a specific goal.  The DVDs are going for just £10 each and you can have yours now by just contacting any member of the UK Chapter admin team.

Passing of Mr. Lewis

In my last communication with the general membership I extended condolences to the family and friends of the late Robert Lewis a member of the Holmwood community who has served the institution exceptionally well.  It is very sad that Mr. Lewis left us at such a young age having not made it to his half century.  He has however accomplished a great deal in his short life span.  It is Mr. Lewis who brought the Holmwood Cricket team to dominate school boy cricket in Jamaica and it was Mr. Lewis who was influential in the establishment of the 6th Form (A Level or CAPE) at Holmwood.  He has done a remarkable job for the Institution and the Holmwood community in general.

As past students of Holmwood and having just received another example of how fleeting life can be the onus is on us to seize the opportunity to do our part and make a meaningful contribution to the advancement of society.  In a very short period of time Mr. Lewis has made his mark on this institution.  We being still alive can do like wise and leave a legacy for all to be proud of.  Know that those who dare to do receive the power to do.

2009 Events

The list of events planned for the 2009 admin year is as shown in the column on the right of this newsletter.  The walkathon forms will be ready shortly and all members and their friends should collect a form and join us for the second staging of this event.  More detail on this event will follow in future issues of the UK Chapter newsletter.

Other Matters

At our meeting in January 2009 it was agreed that the membership fees for the UK Chapter would increase slightly to just £15 per annum.  This amount is now due and can be paid into the Chapter’s account at any time convenient to you or you can make this payment directly to our Treasurer.  I should like to remind all past students that the membership fee should be considered as a simple free donation to the Chapter to support its operation and mission.  It should not be considered as something mandatory for membership or a prerequisite to attend Chapter meetings.  Please note that it is the kind support that we received from past students that has enabled us to accomplish what we did throughout our first year of existence.  These include the successful staging of three major events and conducting monthly meetings in London and Birmingham.  Maybe at the time when we launched the Chapter and indicated the need for financial support you were a bit hesitant to give of your hard earn cash.  But now that you have seen the results of our determination and efforts you have no excuse to not give of your time and means to what is clearly a worthy cause.  Let us all work together to build a great future for all Holmwoodites.

This month our meeting will be held in Birmingham at the home of 1st Vice President Mr. Fitzroy Reid.  This meeting is particularly important as we would like to use it to look into the possibility of having our Birmingham meetings at a new venue. This is because Fitzroy’s home will soon be no longer available.  All holmwood past students living in Birmingham and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to turn out for this meeting so that you can ensure that the UK Chapter continue to have a presence in Birmingham.

All past students in receipt of this newsletter should know by now that Fitzroy one of our founding member and key supporter of the UK Chapter has relocated to the Middle East where he is making money and not war.  Fitzroy has ask me to say greetings to all the members of the UK Chapter and to let you know that he is doing fine and is trying to adjust to the new culture and language.  To the best of my knowledge he has not yet started to wear the turban.  Fitzroy continues to support the Chapter and although he is so far away he is the one who has pressed strongly for us to have this meeting in Birmingham at his home.

I will now end this very short newsletter on a personal but jovial note.  For the several months that I have been writing these newsletters I have observed that a particular female friend of mine feels that she is at liberty to “race me up” whenever I write anything that is not to her complete satisfaction and so I hope for the sake of mankind that that is not her usual behaviour in all cases in which she is not completely satisfied.

Fellow past students on behalf of the admin team have a wonderful week and we look forward to see you all in Birmingham on Saturday the 7th of March 2009.
